History was made in Peoria
as Bob Porterfield(3-1) tossed a no-hitter and the
Peoria Chiefs defeated the Carolina Grays by the score of
1 to
0.
Porterfield gave the home town fans an evening that
they'll never forget. He
walked 6 Carolina
batters. The tension started to build
around the 6th
inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was
electrified. Peoria
had 8 hits for
the night.
John Antonelli(1-3) was the losing pitcher. It was a tough loss for him as he
did not allow an earned run in
his 7 innings of work.
It took a while to pry Porterfield way from his teammates
as they all wanted
to show their appreciation and
joy. Finally, however, Michael Tricarico
got
to offer his own congratulations
with a big bear hug and the comment, 'That
was one of the best pitched
games I have seen in all my years in baseball -
Porterfield was masterful out there tonight!'
